A
2-Speed motor runs at about 3450 rpm (revolutions per minute) at
high speed (the same as a 1-speed motor) and 1725 rpm at low speed.
Thus, low speed water flow is reduced by about 50% compare to high
speed.
A
typical 1.5 H.P. pump draws about 1.9 KWH (kilowatt per hour) in
high speed operation. However, in low speed in draws 0.57 kWh. The
energy (electricity) to run a motor at low speed drops by 70%!
The
2-Speed Energy Saver provides a minimum amount of high speed operation
before switching to the cost saving low speed mode. Pools with D.E.
filters or sand filters require high speed operation at the start
of the filter cycle. Most pools with automatic cleaners require
additional high speed operation. The amount of high speed operation
can be selected to match the requirements of the pool and equipment.
Using
a cost of $.11 per kilowatt/hour and standard filtration times for
an average sized pool of 17,000 gallons with a 1.5 H.P. motor gives
us a usage and cost of:
