Description of Ionization
If you remember from high school chemistry, an atom usually has an equal number of electrons and protons. The process of gaining or losing electrons is called ionization. This can be as simple as dissolving table salt (sodium chloride) in a glass of water creating sodium ions and chloride ions. We create metallic ions electronically.

 

Is it safe?
The EPA standard for our drinking water is 1.3ppm of copper and .050 ppm of silver. Less than one-third of this amount is all that's needed to purify your pool. Copper is a needed nutrient in our diets. In fact in order to meet the recommended minimum daily requirements, you would have to drink a gallon of your ionized pool water per day. But there are better ways to get your proper nutrition!

In 1992 the National Sanitation Foundation set the guidelines for safe operation of a swimming pool using ionization as the primary disinfectant in the Specification 50. This is the standard for all forms of pool sanitation. This national independent testing organization sets sanitation standards for many industries such as hospitals and food and drink industries.
