SBX-9002 Series Field Test


NOTE:

DURING TESTING, ALLOW EACH FUNCTION TO COMPLETELY FINISH BEFORE ACTIVATING ANOTHER SWITCH. THE MICROPROCESSOR REMEMBERS EVERY SWITCH ACTIVATION.

READ EACH STEP COMPLETELY BEFORE PERFORMING ANY OPERATION.

 

Pre-Set Switches and Jumpers

TURN POWER OFF TO THE UNIT.

On the Main (Back) Board:

Front Panel:

Standard Function Boards:

 

Turn Power On

A. Apply power to unit.

  1. The POWER indicator on front panel will alternate between Red and Green about every 3-5 seconds.
  2. The valve cycle light on the front panel will illuminate for 45 to 60 seconds. LD1 (indicator light) on the actuator board will be on when ever the valve cycle light is on. DO NOT ACTIVATE ANY SWITCHES WHEN THE VALVE CYCLE LIGHT IS ON.
  3. The pump and PUMP indicator on the front panel will be off.
  4. The NO FLOW and FREEZE indicators on the front panel will be off.
  5. The COOL DOWN CYCLE indicator on the front panel will be off.
  6. The T.C. ON indicator (LD2) on the main circuit board will be off.

 

Manual Operation Test

B. Wait for the VALVE CYCLE light on the front panel to turn off. Turn the AUTOMATIC/MANUAL on the front panel switch to MANUAL.

  1. The PUMP indicator on the front panel will turn on and glow green.
  2. The pump will turn on and run in high speed.

C. Turn the PUMP ON/PUMP OFF switch to the PUMP OFF position for 15 seconds.

  1. The pump will turn off.
  2. The PUMP indicator will be off.

D. Turn the PUMP ON/PUMP OFF switch to the PUMP ON position.

  1. The pump will turn on and run in high speed.
  2. The PUMP indicator will be green and turn on.

E. Turn the AUTOMATIC/MANUAL Switch to the AUTOMATIC position.

  1. The pump will turn off.
  2. The PUMP light on the front panel will be off.

 

Automatic Operation Test

F. Push some of the time clock detentes to the "on" position (detentes toward the center of the time clock). Rotate the time clock to an "on" position. Rotate the ION OUTPUT control to about 15% (N/A on models 9202 & 9302)

  1. The Valve Cycle light will illuminate for about 45 to 60 seconds.
  2. The PUMP indicator will turn on and be green.
  3. The pump will turn on and run in high speed.
  4. The T.C. indicator (LD2) on the back board will be on. 
  5. The ION OUTPUT light will be on. (N/A for models 9302 & 9202)

G. After the Valve Cycle light extinguishes the pump will run in high speed for about 15 to 70 seconds.

H. After running in high:

  1. The PUMP indicator will change color to orange or yellow.
  2. The pump will run in low speed.
  3. The ION OUTPUT light will be on. (N/A for models 9302 & 9202)

Note:In the Test Mode, when pushing a remote button, push the button and hold for 2 seconds.

I. Activate the remote panel heater button once or activate the button on the 4-way switch (if present) assigned to the heater once.

  1. The heater indicator on the remote panel and 4-way switch should illuminate.
  2. The heater indicator (LD1) on the remote heater board in the unit will illuminate.  
  3. If the heater is working, the heater will fire depending on the thermostat setting.

J. Activate the remote panel heater button once or activate the button on the 4-way switch assigned to the heater once.

  1. The heater indicator on the remote panel or 4-way switch should turn off.
  2. The heater indicator (LD1) on the remote heater control board will turn off.
  3. If the heater is working, it will turn off.

K. Rotate the time clock to an "off" position.

  1. The pump will run in HIGH speed for 7-23 seconds. (The Cool Down Cycle will run only if the heater button was activated.)
  2. The COOL DOWN CYCLE indicator will illuminate while the pump is running in high speed.
  3. The PUMP light will be green.
  4. The T.C. indicator (LD2) on the back board will be off.
  5. The ION OUTPUT light will be off. (N/A for Models 9202 & 9302)

L. After the Cool Down Cycle ends:

  1. The pump will turn off.
  2. The PUMP indicator on the front panel will be off.
  3. The COOL DOWN CYCLE indicator on the front panel will be off.

Spa Mode Test

Note:     In the Test Mode, when pushing a remote button, push the button and hold for 2 seconds.

A. Push the SPA button on the remote panel or the button on the 4-way switch (if present) assigned that function one time.
Push the HEATER BUTTON on the remote panel one time.

  1. The valve cycle light will illuminate.
  2. The valves will rotate to the spa position.
  3. The SPA indicator (LD1) on the main board will be illuminated.
  4. The pump will turn on and run in high speed.
  5. The heater light (LD1) on the remote heater board will on. The heater indicator on the remote panel will be on.

B. After 45 - 60 seconds the valve cycle light will turn off.

  1. The pump will be on and in high speed.
  2. The SPA indicator (LD1) on the main board will be on.

C. Push the HEATER BUTTON on the remote panel one time.
Push the SPA button on the remote panel or the button on the 4-way switch (if applicable) assigned that function one time.

  1. The valve cycle light will illuminate.
  2. The valves will rotate to the pool position.
  3. The SPA indicator (LD1) on the main board will not be illuminated.
  4. The pump will run in high speed.
  5. The heater light on the remote heater board will not illuminate. The heater indicator on the remote panel will not illuminate.

D. After 45-60 seconds the valve cycle light will turn off.

The pump will be on and in high speed.
The Cool Down Cycle indicator will illuminate.

E.After the Cool Down Cycle ends (7 to 23 seconds):

  1. The pump will turn off.
  2. The PUMP indicator on the front panel will be off.
  3. The COOL DOWN CYCLE indicator on the front panel will be off.

 

Aux1 and Aux2 Test

A. Activate the AUX 1 button one time on the Remote Panel.

LD2 on the Aux circuit board will illuminate.

B. Activate the AUX 2 button one time on the Remote Panel.

LD1 on the Aux circuit board will illuminate.

C. Activate the AUX 1 and AUX 2 buttons one time on the Remote Panel.

LD1 and LD2 will turn off.

 

Set Switches for Normal Operation

A. TURN POWER OFF TO THE UNIT.

On The Main (Back) Board:

Front Panel:

Standard Function Boards:

B. TURN POWER ON TO THE UNIT. After the VALVE CYCLE indicator goes out the unit is ready for normal operation.

Note:

The Cool Down Cycle is run whenever the heater was activated and the pump is going to be turned off. If the heater was not turned off, the Cool Down Cycle will turn it off. If the Test/Normal (SW1) switch is in the NORMAL position, the cool down cycle will last about 7 minutes.

THIS COMPLETES THE INITIAL FIELD TEST OF THE AUTOMATIC REMOTE POOL AND SPA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.

Freeze Circuit Test

The SBX-9302 and the SBX-9602 freeze protection circuit should be tested as follows:

A. Turn Power off to the Unit.

B. Pre-Set Switches:

  1. JP3       Jumper in 3 hour position
  2. SW1       Test position

C. On the main board (rear) remove the wire from TB3 pin 4 (Freeze Common).

D. Turn Power on to the Unit..

The VALVE CYCLE light will illuminate for 45 - 60 seconds.

E. After 45-60 seconds:

  1. The VALVE CYCLE light will again illuminate for 45 - 60 seconds.
  2. The PUMP indicator will turn on and be green.
  3. The pump will turn on and run in high speed.
  4. The FREEZE indicator on the front panel will be on.

F. When the VALVE CYCLE light goes out:

  1. The PUMP indicator will remain on and green.
  2. The pump will be in high speed.
  3. The FREEZE indicator on the front panel will be on.

G. TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE UNIT.

H. RESET SWITCHES
  1. JP3       Jumper in 3 hour or desired position
  2. SW1       Normal position

I. Install the wire back in TB2 pin 4 (Freeze Common).

J. Turn power on to the unit. After the VALVE CYCLE indicator goes out the unit is ready for normal operation.

 

Ionization Field Test  (N/A for models 9202 & 9302)

A. Turn the pump on with the MANUAL switch.

B. Disconnect the wires from the electrodes and short them together. Rotate the ION OUTPUT knob to 15%.

The ION OUTPUT light should illuminate.

C. Remove the short between the electrode wires - the CHECK ELECTRODES light should illuminate.

D. Turn the pump off with the MANUAL switch.

E. Reconnect the wires to the electrodes. Rotate the ION OUTPUT knob to 0% or the desired setting.

 

Solar Heat Field Test

A. Connect a SPST (on/off) switch set in the "off or open" position to TB2 pins 3 and 4.

B. Turn the switch "to the on or closed" position.

  1. The Valve Cycle light will illuminate for about 45 to 60 seconds.
  2. The PUMP indicator will turn on and be green.
  3. The pump will turn on and run in high speed.
  4. The ION OUTPUT light will be off. (N/A for models 9302 & 9202)

C. After the Valve Cycle light extinguishes:

  1. The pump will run in high speed.
  2. The ION OUTPUT light will be on. (N/A for models 9302 & 9202)

D. Turn the switch "to the off or open" position.

  1. The pump will turn off.
  2. The PUMP indicator on the front panel will turn off.
  3. The ION OUTPUT light will be off. (N/A for models 9302 & 9202)

Water Level Controller Input

A. Connect a SPST (on/off) switch set in the "off or open" position to TB1 pins 1 and 2.

B. Turn the switch "to the on or closed" position.

  1. The PUMP indicator will turn on and be green.
  2. The pump will turn on and run in high speed.

C. Turn the switch "to the off or open" position.

  1. The pump will turn off.
  2. The PUMP indicator will turn off.

 

Actuator Function Board

A. Verify the VALVE CYCLE light is not lit on the front panel. Identify and remove all wires connected to TB1on the actuator board..

B. Push the SPA button on the remote panel or the button on the 4-way switch (if present) assigned that function one time.

  1. The SPA indicator (LD1) on the main board will be illuminated.
  2. The valve cycle light will illuminate.
  3. Measure 28 vac between each pair of common and spa connections.

C. After 45 - 60 seconds the valve cycle light will turn off.

Measure 0 vac between each pair of common and spa connections.

D. Push the SPA button on the remote panel or the button on the 4-way switch (if applicable) assigned that function one time.

  1. The SPA indicator (LD1) on the main board will not be illuminated.
  2. The valve cycle light will illuminate.
  3. Measure 28 vac between each pair of common and pool connections.

E. After 45-60 seconds the valve cycle light will turn off.

Measure 0 vac between each pair of common and pool connections.

F. When the valve cycle light is off, reconnect the wires to the Remote Heater Board.

 

Remote Heater Board Field Test

A. Set a multimeter to measure resistance (ohms).    

Make sure the Time Clock is in an "Off" position. Verify the switches are set for AUTOMATIC operation.

Identify and remove all wires connected to TB1 of the Remote Heater Circuit Board.

B. Turn the pump "on" in the MANUAL mode.

Activate the remote panel HEATER button once or activate the button on the 4-way switch (if present) assigned to the heater once.

  1. The heater indicator (LD1) on the remote heater control board will illuminate.  
  2. There will be about 0 ohms (continuity) between TB1-1 (Com) and TB1-3 (N.O.)
  3. There will be about 0 ohms between TB1-4 (Heater Select Com) and TB1-5 (Pool).

C. Push the SPA button on the remote panel or the button on the 4-way switch (if applicable) assigned that function one time.

After the valves have moved to the SPA position and the VALVE CYCLE light goes out:

(Spa heater is selected immediately in this mode.)

  1. There will be about 0 ohms (continuity) between TB1-1 (Com) and TB1-3 (N.O.)
  2. There will be about 0 ohms between TB1-4 (Heater Select Com) and TB1-6 (Spa).

D. Activate the remote panel HEATER button once or activate the button on the 4-way switch assigned to the heater once.

The heater indicator on the remote panel or 4-way switch should turn off.

The heater indicator (LD1) on the remote heater control board will turn off.

There will be no continuity (infinite ohms) between TB-1 (Com) and TB1-3 (N.O.).

E. Push the SPA button on the remote panel or the button on the 4-way switch (if applicable) assigned that function one time.

After the valves have moved to the pool position and the VALVE CYCLE light goes out:

  1. There will be no continuity between TB1-1 (Com) and TB1-3 (N.O.)
  2. There will be about 0 ohms or continuity between TB1-4 (Heater Select Com) and TB1-5 (Pool).

F. Turn the pump off. Once the pump is off and the VALVE CYCLE light is not on, reconnect the wires to TB1 of the Remote Heater Board. Reset all switches for normal operation.

THIS COMPLETES THE FIELD TEST OF THE AUTOMATIC REMOTE POOL AND SPA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM.
